This is part of my point though - a lot of people seem to think that Rockstar won't revive its old franchises or create new ones because of the fact that GTA Online exists, when in reality those old franchises haven't been revived simply because they were problematic to begin with or have simply lost popularity over a long period of time. There probably hasn't been a Manhunt 3 because the first two games were pretty seriously fucked up with the ways you could kill people, and the games came out smack-dab in the middle of the Jack Thompson "murder simulator" era, so they received some significant blowback. Im fine with manhunt and max paynedying since max payne reached the end of the story and manhunt is just never going to be back but still lots of games being made only for it to stop when gta 5 released hell we didnt even get single player dlc for it and there were loots of things point at one day we getting one now a whole generation has passed and we only got one game that has the same gameplay loop as gta and a very similar online modeĮven if we get a new ip from rockstar this gen (with i doubt) it will 100% be another open world game about being a criminal with guns and cars (or something that fits the bill like horses) well at least in the story department they are still doing well but the direction rockstar is going leaves a bad taste in my mouth Thing is there isnt space for the more niche games the company used to make during the ps2-ps3 era rockstar made a lot of games many of them were niche but had a loyal fanbase Rockstar typically takes long development cycles.įor example look at Manhunt - do you think there hasn't been a Manhunt 3 because of GTA Online? I think RDR2 being a massive game that took a lot of time and resources to develop and Midnight Club being a series that hasn't really been "mainstream popular" since the PS2 era is probably a bigger reason for not having a GTAVI already. The fact that they went after such an old game that they basically cannot make any more money from, tells me that at this point T2's decision was just pure evil and pettiness, nothing more.

Maybe I'll be able to finally replace this computer by the time GTA VI comes out, but seeing the direction Take Two is taking the GTA series (Down the shitter.), and knowing that several of the original Rockstar members and founders have left the company recently, I won't hold my breath on being able to actually play any new good GTA game besides that one time like 8 years ago that I was able to play GTA IV on someones' PS3.Īlso why would they care ?
